Staffordshire dogs were traditionally made in pairs; domestic ornaments and loyal mantelpiece guardians.

Folklore travelled with them.In some port cities they became known as ‘brothel dogs’, thought to quietly signal whether visitors were welcome or already being entertained

The Watcher I and II continue this language of watching, company, and silent signals
