MINT IS HERE!
First up head to their instagram and be ready to fall DEEP into plant love!
MINT are toooooo amazing for words, but we are gonna try to explain...
The love/ care/ hard graft/ compassion/ emotion and damn right PURE passion behind this indie business is something every plant LOVER will aspire to and want to join in with.
They are a small team of true plant obsessives, focusing on the weird and the wonderful in the houseplant world. We believe rescuing and rehoming is the key to having a resilient and long lasting relationship with your houseplants.
Whether it's a collection of cacti and succulents built up over years, or a Monstera deliciosa that's overtaking your house, we are able to find it a loving home. We call ourselves the adoption centre for plants.
We run from a small greenhouse, a shipping container and a popup shop in central Bristol. Most of our updates come from owner Hayley over on Instagram, where you can find care advice and new stock updates.
What you see is what you get. Each plant is individually photographed and most are one-offs. Some of the photos might be a little dodgy and you may not find the picture perfect plant. What we do guarantee is that it will be special and have the potential to stay with you for a lifetime.
You'll simply need to pop in store this week to see them all!
Mint Plants was created in 2018 by Hayley Stephens, out of a sheer frustration at the lack of variety available to UK households when it came to indoor greenery. As her obsession with houseplants grew, so did the amount of money spent on dodgy auction websites trying to find weird and wonderful plants for her windowsills.
The shop was started in a little old 1960's tobacconist in the Cotswold town of Wotton Under Edge, alongside LoobyLou Yarns - a luxury wool and yarn shop ran by Tina (H's mum). Here they are on opening day in September 2018. Hayley had 'PLANTER' on my shirt, and mum had 'KNITTER' on hers - so that the customers knew who to ask which questions!
As the business grew, there was a need for more space and higher footfall. And so in February 2022, Mint found its new home of 226 Stapleton Road, Easton, Bristol.
Unfortunately, while the Bristol shop was a complete dream for myself and the team, it quickly became clear it was going to be difficult to achieve what she had hoped for.
The shop was huge, and with an already large rent & wages bill to pay, the cost of living crisis started to really bite. Not to mention trying to bring up an unruly toddler at the same time. Something had to give.
And so in Summer 2023 the difficult decision was made to close the retail shop and continue our journey through our online presence and various events around the country.
They now operate from a shipping container in Brislington, Bristol. They ship our plants across the whole of the country, and have also formed a wonderful relationship with Prior Shop in Bristol.
Prior are an award winning homewares shop in the centre of Bristol's shopping quarter, and what started off as a popup shop has grown into our Bristol showroom. Here you can find lots of our famous rescue plants, plus gorgeous ceramics to match.
And now, MINT is here, at Neighbourhood Store too!
