Meet the lovely Catherine, new to the team this week and wow, all you need do this week is come and see her window takeover! It's here for the whole of September so you've plenty of time.
Catherine has always coloured stuff in, always.
She followed her dream and studied Textiles at Central St Martins. Since then she has worked in schools as an artist, has had two pop up books published and co ran a puppet company. Replacing a felt pen for a tufting gun feels natural. The limitless choice of colour in yarn is exciting. Finding a way of reducing waste by re-using yarn and waste yarn is an important part of her creative process.
The imagery in her work comes from everywhere. She is particularly drawn to 1970's graphics and packaging, fuzzy felt, cut out doll kits, Snoopy, ice cream colour palettes, Jean Miro, and a grandeur mix of colour.
'Back to Play' (over to Catherine).
My Dad used to live and work here in Shoreham working in a family owned cafe over the bridge back in the 1950s.
So when Em & Gary invited me to be a guest artist in this beautiful eye to the shores I had no hesitation in saying a big fat YES.
This window is a tribute to the gentle spirit of my Dad Peter Grimaldi 1933-2022
And the endless creative opportunities we were given as children.
